Students are asked to choose an image provided by their teacher and simplify it down to three colors and a stencil effect. They should draw or paint the simplified image. If able, students can create the simplified image digitally in Photoshop and include screenshots of the process along with a printout of the final image in their sketchbook. An example is provided of Shepard Fairey's 2008 'Hope' poster that captured the country's need for optimism after George W. Bush's presidency through its viral spread. Different grade levels are provided criteria for their simplified images.
