  11. 11. How-toDSpace and Google Fusion
  12. 12. DSpace & Google FusionStart with: a collection in DSpace1. Export the metadata2. Enhance the metadata3. Import the csv to Google Fusion4. Click on Visualize5. Set preferences6. Get embeddable link7. Add embeddable link to DSpace collectionRepeat 5-7 as needed.
  13. 13. Start with: a collection in DSpace
  14. 14. 1. Export the Metadata
  15. 15. 1. Export the Metadata
  16. 16. 1. Export the MetadataThe metadata from the export might be a little...messy. Inthis case, the metadata was added to the collection usingtwo separate methods, and so the columns arent quite linedup.
  17. 17. 2. Enhance the MetadataSo, we fix it before we try to upload it anywhere.
  18. 18. 3. Import the .csv to Google FusionTwo options:1. Go to http://www.google. com/fusiontables/Home/2. Go to drive.google.com, and click on Create > Other > Fusion Table
  19. 19. 3. Import the .csv to Google Fusion
  20. 20. 3. Import the .csv to Google Fusion
  21. 21. 3. Import the .csv to Google Fusion Oops! Whatever program you use to enhance the data may use its own separator by default - looks like we need to indicate that a semi-colon is our data delimiter. So, click on Back and try again, with ";" designated
  22. 22. 3. Import the .csv to Google Fusion
  23. 23. 3. Import the .csv to Google Fusion
  24. 24. 3. Import the .csv to Google FusionNow, we have a Google Fusion Table.
  25. 25. 4. Click on VisualizeFor our example, we want a Map visualization, so wego to Visualize > Map.
  26. 26. 5. Set preferences
  27. 27. 5. Set preferences
  28. 28. 6. Get embeddable link
  29. 29. 6. Get embeddable link This will not work unless the table is shared. Google is pretty good about warning you if the table isnt shared, but if youre having trouble, check the access setup.
  30. 30. 6. Get embeddable link This is the link we want. Highlight the text and copy it.
  31. 31. 7. Add embeddable link to DSpace
  32. 32. 7. Add embeddable link to DSpacePaste the link in one ofthe HTML fields.Click on Save Updates atthe bottom of the page.
  33. 33. 7. Add embeddable link to DSpace You may notice, something went very wrong. Heres why: the embeddable link only contains information as attributes, theres nothing between the tags. So, click the back button and type some text in between the two iframe tags. I usually put "This browser does not support frames." just before the </iframe> tag, but you could write "KISS rules" if you wanted. Also make sure that all the ampersands show as & and not &amp;
  34. 34. 7. Add embeddable link to DSpace
  35. 35. 7. Add embeddable link to DSpaceSo, we have ourmap and our infowindows, but weprobably dontwant to display itlike this to ourusers. So, letsfix it. Head backinto GoogleFusion Tables, and click on"Configure InfoWindow"
  36. 36. Repeat Step 5. Set preferences
  37. 37. Repeat Step 5 - Set Preferences Here, you can change the labels and use HTML to change the display - for example, to display links as links. Then, click on Save.
  38. 38. Refresh DSpace No need to re-embed the link, just refresh the collection page in the browser.
  39. 39. How-ToDSpace & Viewshare
  40. 40. DSpace & ViewshareStart with: a collection in DSpace1. Export the metadata2. Enhance the metadata3. Import the csv to Viewshare4. Edit the data5. Create a View6. Get embeddable link7. Add embeddable link to DSpace collectionRepeat 5-7 as needed.
  41. 41. 3. Import metadata to Viewshare
  42. 42. 3. Import metadata to Viewshare
  43. 43. 4. Edit the data
  44. 44. 4. Edit the data
  45. 45. 5. Create a viewOnce youve uploaded the data, click the "Build" link next to it. This will allowyou to build a view. For this example, well click on Timeline below.
  46. 46. 5. Create a view Select the fields that youd like to use as your parameters along the left side and then Save button is on your upper right.
  47. 47. 5. Create a view
  48. 48. 6. Get embeddable link
  49. 49. 6. Get embeddable link
  50. 50. 7. Embed link in DSpace collection
  51. 51. 7. Embed link in DSpace collection Note, this is the same issue as the <iframe> tags from Google fusion. Some text needs to be in between the tags.
  52. 52. 7. Embed link in DSpace collection
