The Small Business Person of the Year Award is presented as part of the annually held National Small Business Week, during which time the SBA honors businesses nationwide through several award categories. Established over 50 years ago, the awards celebrate the accomplishments of America’s small businesses and provide recognition for their contributions to the nation’s economy and their local communities. National Small Business Week takes place annually in May, with the nomination period opening towards the beginning of the year.

Furthermore, to be nominated businesses must comply with all federal civil rights laws. Individuals may self-nominate but cannot be nominated for more than one category per year.
