JFK to LHR in LabVIEW

  1. 1. Itinerary  For this Labview Project we chose to model a trans- atlantic flight  The problem that we were trying to solve was how fast was a certain plane traveling and how much fuel was it using and how much did it have left
  2. 2.  We chose to use the Boeing 747-400 airliner as our example aircraft  The Boeing 747-400 holds up to 216,847.3138 Liters of Fuel  For this trip we will only use 65,336.20732 Liters of Fuel  At this rate the plane burns 11.76072915 Liters of Fuel per Km  To make the data easily visible we will decrease the amount of total fuel on the 747 just like they do in reality  Airliners do not fill each plane up to full capacity for a range extending flight, which crossing the Atlantic Ocean is not in this case  The total amount of fuel aboard this plane for this particular flight will be 80,000 Liters
  3. 3.  At rest the plane’s speed is 0 km/hr because there is no distance traveled or time traveled and so the fuel is at full capacity  Our Speed Equation: S = Distance / Time  Our Fuel Consumption Equation: Fuel Level = (Full Tank – (Fuel Consumption Rate x Distance) / Full Tank)) x 100

Plane At Takeoff  When the plane begins to move that’s when we can calculate speed and fuel consumption  At takeoff the length of the runway is 4.442 km which is our distance  The amount of time it takes the plane to get down the runway is 0.0153172414 hours  Our speed is 290 km/hr at takeoff  The plane now has 79,947 Liters of Fuel left
  5. 5.  At cruising speed the plane travels at a constant speed for the remainder of the flight  This speed is calculated from half of the total distance traveled which is 2777.5 km  The time is half the average time it takes to travel from JFK to LHR which is 3.04 hrs  The speed is now 910 km/hr  At this moment the plane has 47,334 Liters of Fuel left
  6. 6. Plane At Landing  The 747 begins to slow down during the descent and approach its final distance of 5,555 km  It has flown for approximately 6.08 hours  At the flight’s end, the 747 is left with 14,669 Liters of Fuel
