2. Three years ago, four Arab countries-imposed air, land and sea
blockades on Qatar. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and UAE have
put an end to trade and diplomatic relations with Doha and
imposed sanctions on Qatar's sea, land and air. They claim that
Qatar supported "terrorism" and was too close to Iran. Qatar
rejected these claims, saying there was "no legitimate
justification" to break the relationship. Since then, little progress
has been made in terms of solutions. After Doha filed a racial
discrimination case, Qatar and UAE participated in the struggle of
the International Court of Justice. Qatar ’s Prime Minister visited
Saudi Arabia and was associated with a series of summits, the
highest-level meeting since the crisis broke out. Doha
subsequently expressed reservations about the statements issued
in Mecca. Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul
Rahman Al Tahvi said; “The Gulf summit statement talked about a
unified Gulf, but where is it amid the continuation of Qatar's
blockade?"
4. HOW IT’S STARTED
On 23rd May, 2017, hackers posted false statements on the website of the Qatar
government news agency. These statements were attributed to the rich in Qatar. According to
Al Jazeera and FBI in Qatar, the Qatar News Agency website and other state media platforms
were hacked in May 2017, where hackers posted fake comments attributed to the Emir of
Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, that expressed support for Hamas, Israel, Hezbollah,
and Iran. To quote Amir: "Iran represents a region that cannot be ignored and a powerful Islamic
country. It is unwise to face it. This is an important force for stability in the region." However,
these comments have been made widely in many Arab news media, including Sky News and
Saudi Arabia owned by Saudi Arabia.
In May 2017, the UAE ambassador's email account in the US was hacked into office.
Because the email indicated a link between the US-based and the UAE-based base on the
protection of human freedom that's why the emails were reported as "embarrassing" by Al
Jazeera. The Arab countries saw the smiling news of the alleged email spam as provocative and
the departure of Qatar, and intensified the conflict between the two sides. On 9 June, the Al
Jazeera media network was once again a victim of cyber-attacks across its platforms
These false statements praise Iran and criticize the foreign policy of the United States,
which has been broadcast on various television channels in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi
Arabia. The fake news was released two days after US President Donald Trump met with Arab
and Muslim leaders in Riyadh. Trump showed strong support for Saudi Arabia's efforts in fighting
against states and groups allied with Iran which lead to an arm deal between the countries. On
May 24, authorities in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates blocked Al Jazeera ’s website.
5. On June 5, the US State Department issued a statement in Bahrain, Saudi
Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, announcing the establishment
of a diplomatic relationship with Qatar. Saudi Arabia closed its land border
with Qatar and, along with three other countries, imposed restrictions on
land, sea and air closure for its neighbors. Both countries claim that Qatar
has worked hard to support "terrorism", maintaining close links with Iran and
interfering with the internal affairs of its country. Qatar has responded that
there are no valid reasons for the actions of these four countries. He also
added that the decision "violates his sovereignty" and will ensure that the
decision does not affect citizens.
6. Diplomatic operations began in 2014, when Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain expelled
diplomats, claiming that Qatar preferred armed groups. However, the border is still open
and there is no whereabouts. The tension with Qatar usually revolves around complaints
about the so-called political Islamic movement, such as the Muslim Brotherhood and
Doha Al Jazeera Media Network. The Arab Spring (Arab Spring) intensified this tension in
2011, when Saudi Arabia and Qatar supported various political parties. On June 7, 2017,
the Saudi Foreign Minister stated that Qatar should end its support for organizations such
as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.
7. Four countries have published a list of applications made within 10 days and
immediately rejected by Qatar. At the top of the list are medical relations with
Iran, including the abolition of military cooperation with Turkey and the
closure of Al Jazeera. These countries have also urged Doha to sever ties
with "terrorist groups", stop providing funding for "terrorists" and groups in
the United States and other countries, and stop foreign interference.
10. 1. ON FOOD
As Qatar is a desert country and to grow
food on the desert is not possible. Qatar
almost import 80% of its food from the
Persian Gulf Arab and only 2% of its food
produced domestically.
11. On 6 June,2017 the boarders between Qatar and Saudi Arabia are closed due to
which many food delivery trucks are idled along the boarder. This cause the
shortage of food in the country and people start hooting foods because all the
food came from the Saudi Arabia through land and now the boarders were
closed. So, the people start hooting the food and minerals and also saving for
the future which cause
great problem for the Government and also for the other peoples of the Qatar.
On 8th June,2017 the foreign minister of Qatar said that “We are fine and we are
all well prepared. We are not worried about the shortage of food”.
12. Because Qatar was in contact with the Iran and Turkey for rescue them from the
shortage. For this purpose, Iran sent four of the cargo planes filled with the Food and
vegetable on 11 June,2017 and ensured them that they will continue the supply. Turkey
also committed that they sent food and other minerals with their troop deployment at
the Turkish military base in Doha. When the Saudi Government closes the boarders,
Mr. Nusseibeh says that “It will immediately cause inflation and that will directly affect
the normal people”.
13. 2. ON AIR TRAVEL
Fly Emirates, Saudi airline, Etihad airways and Fly Dubai suspended their flights to from Doha
and also other airlines of the Egypt and Bahrain also cancelled their flights to and from Doha.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, and Bahrain said that they will cancel their all flight in and out from
Qatar and also closed their airspace for Qatari airways.
14. 3. ON MEDIA
On 7th June,2017, the Attorney journal of UAE gives a statement that if News channel or
any publication that express the sympathy toward Qatar will be charged heavily up to 500000
Dirhams and also the 3 to 15-year imprisonment. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt also
banned their news agencies including the controversial of Al-Jazeera. The Qatari channels like
beIN sports and Al-Jazeera banned in these countries and they also removed their offices.
15. 4. ON CONSTRUCTION
There are so many big projects running in Qatar like the project of a
mega project, a new port and eight stadiums of football because the 2022
world cup of football will be going to held in Qatar. For this purpose, they
are building new well-designed stadiums. As the boarders are closed and
material including concrete and steel come through ships and through land
from neighbour country will result in delay. Therefore, the projects going on
results in delayed and the chances of changing the location for World cup
arises.
16. 5. ON ECONOMY
On the very first day of crises the stock market of Qatar falls 7% which is massive fall in
stock market and then On June 9 it reached to 9.7. For this the government injected 38 billion
Dollar to give support the country’s economy and to its banking or business sector which was
equivalent to the 23% of the country GDP. Some of the international Banks want to make
relationships with Qatar but the country like Saudi Arabia and UAE warned the bankers to not
make close relations with Qatar which will cause the major consequences. Mr Nusseibeh
believe that many gulf firms which are present in Qatar will likely to close. Also, some
business deals which Qatar have with these countries are ended like Al-Ahli football team of
Saudi Arabia has cancelled a sponsorship deal with Qatar airways.
18. Qatar crisis begin in June 2017, after the breach of the agreement of Gulf
Cooperation Council(GCC).
Qatar is supporting for terrorism by aiding the militant groups linked to Al-Qaida
and traitor groups in Syria. It also has relations with Iran and Afghan Taliban.
Turkey and Iran are aiding Qatar in this hard time while other Gulf countries like
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Niger, Comoros, and Gabon; are
against Qatar.
19. A few Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, kuwait and Oman have started talk with
Qatar in order to resolve all these issues. According to them these issues are
weakening the strength of Gulf countries.
UAE on the other hand is not interested to take any step forward to resolve the
issue. After the recent tweet of foreign minister of UAE, the things have gone
more worse.
20. GCC is made up of the kings of the six member countries. Their duty is to execute
the Supreme Council's decisions and give managerial assistance.
The Gulf Cooperation Council should have been played its role to resolve the
issue very earlier but nothing has happened yet to end the crisis for Qatar
23. During the blocked Qatar was facing many difficulties but some of the actions taken by the
Saudi given Qatar more advantages than the disadvantages. It is said that Qatar changed
its crisis to its benefits and used the crisis for its benefit and earned benefit by the crisis.
Qatar approved a draft law which has given permanent residency to the Qatari women’s
and their children’s which were married to non-Qatari men’s.
Qatar got a huge reputation geographically and is at the center of the canal. However
besieged countries were finding a new route for the transport of food due to the blockade.
According to the Washington post:
“By pushing through domestic policy goals that will reshape not only the country but the
Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a whole, this move is an indication that the Qatari
leadership is using this crisis to its advantage."
24. Qatar got sympathy vote from all over the world because Saudi
Arab recalled their citizens in Qatar and forced Qatari families to
leave their countries and move back to Qatar. In this situation
Qatar’s situation was really very bad and every country
supported Qatar in these circumstances.
Social media was the biggest platform where the Qatar got
support everyone was tweeting for Qatar and social media was
full of support for Qatar.
25. The worst effect of the Qatar Crisis was on its economy and the economy
was very Badly
damaged and the Qatar which was at its peak in the economic growth
immediately got
destabilized economy.
Saudi Arab given a 14 days deadline to the Qatari people in their countries
and in the allies
to leave them and go back to Qatar and given 2 days deadline to the
diplomats to go back to
Qatar. Which was one of the worst stages. In these conditions and during
the blockade.
26. Qatar was used to get 80% of its food from other countries but during
the blockade Qatar
was not able to get the food because of the isolation with the
neighboring countries. Many of the food trucks were blocked at the
border of Saudi Arab and Qatar and Qatar was not able to get the
food resources.
All the Saudi And Its supporting countries banned their flights to
Qatar and didn’t allowed
Qatari Airlines to enter there zone. So, in this situation Qatar used the
way of Iran for the flights and given a hefty for each of these flights.
27. Over 100000 of non-Qatari citizens were present in Qatar
which faced a huge problem in booking the tickets land going
back to their respective countries because of the restriction’s
forces by neighbor countries of Qatar.
UAE banned the Qatar ships to enter in to their region and said
that they will not allow their ships to enter. So, Qatar’s ships
had nowhere to go for trade.
29. As the Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and
Egypt gives the 13 points to Qatar on 22 June
which they want Qatar to do some of them
are ,To cut all the Diplomatic relations with
the Iran, also to cut all relation ties with the
terrorist groups, They also want them to close
Turkish military base and to terminate all the
joint military cooperation with Turkey, and
the most important they want to shut down
there only channel Al-Jazeera and other news
outlet.
But on 2 July Qatar showed the negative
response on their 13-point list of demand. On
3 July Kuwait who act as a mediator ask
Saudia to extended the deadline which
Saudia has extended to 5th July.
30. . After receiving the response of Qatar on their demands the
foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, and Egypt met
with each other in Cairo. In this meeting they decided to resolve
the dispute but the economic and political boycott of Qatar will
remain unchanged until Qatar change its policies.
Instead of 13 points of demand to complete they wanted Qatar to
commit to six broad principles. These six principles include
combat the terrorism and extremism, stop instigate to hatred and
violence, stop interfering into the internal affairs of the other
countries, and denying financing.
