Microsoft Virtual Academy Student Manual 4 Lesson 4: Mobility and Protection Technology Review This lesson explains the VM mobility and protection technologies in Windows Server 2012. The lesson shows you how these technologies compare, and it also shows you how to determine which technologies are appropriate for particular scenarios.
  5. 5. Module 1B: Mobility and Technology Protection Review. Microsoft Virtual Academy Student Manual 5 Mobility and Protection Technologies Windows Server 2012 provides a range of technologies to support VM mobility and also to enable VM protection and availability. When you assess which technologies to use in your environment, you must understand the design goals for each technology. For example, although there should be zero downtime during Live Migration, on its own, Live Migration does not protect against hardware failure.
  6. 6. Module 1B: Mobility and Technology Protection Review. Microsoft Virtual Academy Student Manual 6 Mobility and Protection Technologies Compared This table shows the technology support for a range of typical requirements, such as for protection against hardware failure, and also whether the technology is compatible with workgroups or requires domain membership.  The technology supports this requirement.  The technology supports this requirement in certain situations.  The technology does not support this requirement. In some environments, you may end up using all these technologies; in other environments, specific combinations of technologies—such as Live Migration plus Storage Migration plus clustering—may be sufficient.
