To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing in support of Maxwell Siegelman, a student at SUNY Oneonta who will graduate this
month. Max’s major is communication arts and his minor is sports management. He is a strong and
reliable student as attested to by the fact that he was chosen to serve as an undergraduate teaching
assistant in communications classes.
Max has shown a great deal of initiative in his studies, especially in focusing his major and minor to
help him move in the direction to which he aspires, working in professional sports. He sought out and
obtained two summer internships with top flight sports organizations, Major League Soccer in New
York City and the New York Mets in Flushing, NY. Max identified these positions on his own
initiative and was able both to get hired and also to complete the work successfully.
Probably the outstanding characteristic that Max is known for on campus is that since his freshman
year he served as the goalkeeper of our men’s soccer team. In fact he spearheaded the team this past
season to the final four in the NCAA Division III championship. An accomplished goalkeeper, Max
earned many awards including ECAC conference all star and was twice named to the all-conference
team. But more importantly, his athletic experience has helped him develop the personal tools and
attitudes that will be useful for employment and leadership. The focus, drive, and dedication that he
learned in spots will serve him well in his future positions. He commented in a letter to me that,
“Being a motivated and hard working athlete showed me that putting all my effort into both athletics
and academics I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. Being a well-organized and time
management conscious person helped me through my four years has an athlete and as a student.”
Max has shown his leadership abilities in many ways. As captain of the soccer team, he fostered a
drive for community service among the players, including leading their involvement in projects such
as breast cancer awareness and the Relay for Life. He also volunteered as a trainer, coach and
counselor for a number of sport camps for young children in the Oneonta area and on our campus.
In addition to his sports experience, academic achievements, and community service, Max has
outstanding personal characteristics. You will not meet a more polite, self-controlled, and articulate
young man. If I were a potential employer I would be proud to have him associated with my
organization. I urge you to consider him seriously for yours.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kleniewski, President
