2. Every 15 seconds, a burglary occurs in the United States. Five to eight thousand
homes experience either a burglary or a home invasion on a daily basis. In 30
percent of these incidences, the culprits did not have to resort to using force and
instead, entered the premises through an unlocked opening – doors, windows,
and garage doors included. It is also possible that these intruders enter the same
home more than once.
Burglary in Utah
The Utah Department of Public Safety provided a fact sheet on the burglaries in
the state back in 2014. There were 10,695 incidences of this crime. The offences
that happened in residences during the day had 1,537 reported cases, while
there were 1,261 cases that were reported during nighttime. The total value of
items stolen were $2,798,722 and $1,921,774, respectively. Fifty-two percent of
these cases were non-forcible.

3. Garage Door Remotes
These things are at the top of a burglar’s list of things to steal. These criminals are
certainly looking for innovative ways of breaking into home sneakily. It started as
a trend in California. Reported back in 2015, they noticed the increase in car
break-ins, not to steal cars, but to steal garage door remotes.
Like keys in general, a person should never leave their garage door remotes in
their cars or at least keep them hidden from prying eyes.These give criminals easy
access into their homes.
Other Garage Door Security Options
There are companies that offer security solutions for garage doors that do not
require remotes. Some feature a Digital Intelligence system; while it quickly cycles
the door, it looks for obstruction in the immediate area, adding a higher level of
security.

This only shows that burglars will never run out of options when it comes to
breaking into homes. Before, their favorite spot was the front door, but now, once
they see an open garage door, they consider this as the entryway to a gold mine.
