  2. 2. Every empire needs a way to make the common people happy…<br />
  3. 3. Here’s how the Ancient Romans kept the peace: Bread and Circuses<br />
  4. 4.
  5. 5. First they needed: Bread<br />
  6. 6. The poor needed wheat to make bread in order to survive,<br />
  7. 7. when they didn’t have enough food they rioted.<br />
  8. 8. So the emperor provided free wheat!<br />
  9. 9. But it came at the farmers expense since they were paid a low price for their crops.<br />
  10. 10. Second they needed: Circuses<br />
  11. 11. Circuses were huge shows that had free admission for the people.<br />
  12. 12. Men that fought in these circuses were called gladiators.<br />
  13. 13. Most gladiators were slaves.<br />
  14. 14. Also public executions were held.<br />
  15. 15. Lesson to be learned:<br /> ?<br />
  16. 16. Feed and entertain the people to make them at peace.<br />
