This presentation introduces The Food Project: an after-school Green STEM Learning enrichment program facilitated by Mary Van Dyke. I am offering this program for fall 2016 to spring 2017 at Swanson Middle School, Arlington. Please contact me if you're interested in the program for grades elementary school grades 3 - 5, or for middle school grades 6-8.
In this year-long program, students connect farming, fun and food. Prepare ground in the fall, test soil, begin to compost, and then plan, plant and care for an outdoor “mini-farm” at your school site. Students can take produce home, or donate to the local Food Assistance Center, or have the opportunity to harvest and sell veg produce by arranging a CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) at school. Opportunities also include to exhibit their project in the spring at the regional NOVA Outside School Environmental Action Showcase in spring, and also at the VA Urban Ag Summit to be held in Arlington in October 2017.
