5. Pessimists consider this world at a living hell. It is
infested with all forms of evil and suffering. To understand this,
we have to visit the hospitals where helpless and hapless patients
who are suffering from all kinds of lingering sickness and
communicable diseases are confined; we have to see for ourselves
the crushed, charred, and mangled victims of vehicular
accidents, the casualties of typhoons, foods, volcanic eruptions,
plagues, wars, earthquakes, fire, etc.
6. Pessimists view that life is a kind
of mistake and the greatest crime of
man is that he ever was born. For
man is born to until he dies, whereas
he did not choose to be born: He is
being punished for assuming an
existence that he never asks for at
all.

crime of man is that he ever was
born. For man is born to until he

8. Pessimists believe that life is
disappointing. Temporary happiness
makes their suffering more
unbearable for it will just leave them
unsatisfied and yearn for happiness.
9. Pessimists hold that life is no good
and has no purpose. Life is an irrational
purposeless striving to a pointless
existence. Life is full of rocks and
whirlpools, which they avoid with the
greatest and solitude, although he
knows that even if he succeeds in
getting through with all his efforts and
skills, he comes nearer at every step to
the total, inevitable, and irremediable
shipwreck, death, or even right upon it.
