California was sighted by Spanish navigator called Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542, its first Spanish mission (at San Diego) was not established until 1789. Leading industries include agriculture, aerospace-defense, biotechnology etc… Principal natural resources include timber, petroleum, cement, and natural gas.

  7. 7. Capital: Sacramento Sacramento is the capital of California and the seat of Sacramento County. It is located in the north-central part of the state at the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers. The city has always been a hub of river transportation and is a major deep-water port connected to the Pacific Ocean. Sacramento's economy is highly diversified and, along with state government and military installations, its industries include aerospace, high technology, furniture, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, meat packing, and food processing of crops from the Central Valley.
  8. 8. Tom Hanks • Thomas Jeffrey "Tom" Hanks (born July 9, 1956) is an American actor, producer, writer, and director. Hanks is best known for his roles in Forrest Gump , the green mile, the Da Vinci code etc • He has earned and been nominated for numerous awards during his career, including winning a Golden Globe for Best Actor and an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Philadelphia and a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a People's Choice Award for Best Actor for his role in Forrest Gump, and earning the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film from the BAFTAs in 2004.
