2. ATYPICAL WOUND
• Wounds due to common etiologies are called atypical wound.
• CAUSE: Common etiologies include inflammatory
cause,infections,vasculopathies,metabolic and genetic cause
malignancies and external cause
• EXAMPLE: Thigh is an atypical location for
pressure,venous,arterial or diabetic ulcer should raise the
suspicion for an atypical cause a wound that is not healing for
3-6 months. Tissue samples are mandatory.

3. WOUND MANAGEMENT
• Control pain
• Necrotic tissue…surgical debridement is contraindicated in as it may result
in even worse ulceration
• Avoidance of trauma at dressing removal…Disturbance can even generate a
greater inflammatory response and stimulate detioration
• Negative pressure therapy…may be used as a debridement when the disease
is stable
• Debridement and skin grafting: can be considered when the condition is
under controlled, surgery

• Wounds that not healed for 3 months are infected have compromised the viability of
surrounding tissue are otherwise impair normal healing
• Effective treatment for complex wounds:
• USG
• Hydrogel dressing
• Hydrocolloid dressing
• Electrotherapy
• Air-fluidized bed
• Air foam mattresses
