A new policy brief/report from Ohio State University researchers titled, "Too Many Heads and Not Enough Beds: Will Shale Development Cause a Housing Shortage?" The researchers used federal government data on housing in Pennsylvania for the years 2007-2011--the first four years of PA's Marcellus Shale boom. The report finds that although there are some blips of higher rents, overall in the most heavily drilled counties, housing values and rents remained pretty much the same throughout the period of heavy drilling. In other words: there is and was no housing crisis in PA, as widely publicized by the media.
