  • With 50 Billion Devices to be connected by 2020 industries are reinventing themselves with network at the center of this disruption. Automation, Manufacturing, Energy and other industries are transitioning to Internet Protocol (IP) causing an increase in IP traffic to 20 times by 2017. The Devices, IP traffic are growing at a faster pace than the talent required to deploy them and this is causing a skill gap in the industry. World Bank Studies estimates that over the next ten years there will be two million unfilled ICT-related jobs globally. To Connect the Unconnected it is estimated that 220,000 new engineers are required every year from 2014-2022. Breakdown of Industries and Geographies:
  • The industry recognizes this talent gap and hyper growth that is happening in the IOT space.
  • We(Cisco) recognize this challenge and we are committed to meeting the critical demand for high-skill workers through strategic programs and partnerships with the industry and standard bodies.We are working with Industrial IP Advantage a global consortium and community whose charter is to make adoption of IP easier.ODVA’s Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) is part of our curriculumWe plan to include other Standard Industry Protocols as relevant like:IETF’s Constrained RESTful Environments (CoRE)IPv6 over Low-Power Wireless Personal Area Networks Transmission of IPv6 Packets over IEEE 802.15.4 NetworkIETF routing over low-power and lossy networks or the ZigBee adoption of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
  • Cisco has a great experience in training the industry and has led the way in many transformative offerings.PSTN to VOIPwas a similar transition. Cisco worked with the industry by training and certifying thousands of Traditional Telephone Engineers to transition over to IP and we are doing that with Video now. Physical to Virtual appliances in the Data Center is another transition that we are enabling today. Security is another example where Threat Detection and Mitigation is a key skill needed in the industryCisco Training and Certifications have been recognized for their value, integrity and brand by many industry bodies. Cisco Certifications are ANSI accredited and recognized by the IPv6 world forum and many othersUsing best practices from these offerings Cisco is committed to working with the industry help make this transition to IOT!
  • We will be releasing a Specialist Certification by Summer 2014 focused on foundational level skills for IOT and a CCNA focused on solution architectures like Manufacturing, Oil & Gas etc by End of 2014We will add more verticals as the industry matures and standards and protocols get defined.
