Good evening everybody
I'm Marc, Co-Founder at JobFluent which it the leading job board for startups jobs in Europe.
Today I'm going to talk about what technologies are being used in startups.
This is an important topic since startups are the ones who lead technology adoption in the industry so what is used in startups is what is going to be used widely in the industry in the near future.
At JobFluent we have lots of data to share, but today I’d like to center your attention on where we are now. In Barcelona
So, in Barcelona we currently have 300 growing startups, Which means that they are hiring.
That translates in 800 job offers posted and active in jobfluent website
The interesting thing here is that out of 800 job positions 50% of them are targeted to pure technical profiles.
Also please note that the fact that some some startups are hiring marketing, sales UI/UX profiles that should also know about tech. They need people to be self suficient, meaning that they need people that can do their own SQL queries on the database to analyze for instance, user growth, user retention, what product category was most sold last week in their marketplace.
PHP leading -> success stories:
Ulabox
Social Point (2nd biggest Symfony project in the world 2012 after YouPorn)
In frontend we are obviously talking about Javascript so we fill be focussing on javascript frameworks for now.
Conclusion:
FrontEnd Frameworks tend to change a lot, the advice for you would be. Focus on Javascript and not to any specific framework because whatever you choose it will be superseded by the new fancy framework really soon.
Advice
Here’s a list of top profiles by category.
I’m always leaving this slide for the last one because I know it’s going to cause controversy so if if you want we can start the QA here.
