He shared various stages of communication which are useful for inter-personal skills including a) Small Talk, b) Fact Disclosure, c) Views & Opinion and d) Personal Feelings. This knowledge is helpful in even communicating with strangers. We all can use it effectively while talking to our family members, friends, team members, managers, boss, customers and various stakeholder.

  3. 3. Why we hesitate Nervousness is natural while talking strangers because we think:  What if we said something embarrassing?  What if they didn’t like you?  What if they form opinion about me?
  4. 4. Levels of Communication  Level 1:Small Talk  Level 2: Fact Disclosure  Level 3: Viewpoint and Opinions  Level 4: Personal Feeling
  5. 5. 1. Small Talk  Small Talks are duration of 1 or 2 Minute  They are just Dialogue  They can include small remarks about ◦ Weather ◦ Immediate Surroundings ◦ Current Events  Don’t Expect lot of disclosure from other person at this point of time.  It is just opening of conversation
  6. 6. 2. Fact Disclosure  At this stage you want to know about other person  Disclose facts about your Occupation and Hobbies to find something common  You might discover that both of you are engineer or like sky diving
  7. 7. 3. Viewpoints and Opinions  You may give opinion about acquaintance at this stage  For example you can share your opinion about Politics or Mutual Acquantance
  8. 8. 4. Personal Feelings  This is the stage where you should disclose you personal feelings or problems you feel  You can talk about your child and problems you are facing regarding planning his future career
  9. 9. Open Ended Question  For Building any conversation you should give opportunity to speak to another person. Generally, we tend to ask questions which result in Yes/No type answer. It ends the communication  Try to includes What, How and Why type question which gives more opportunity of disclosure to another person
