Mr. Sanjay Chhabra, opened up the conversation with a brief introduction to the conventional type of construction with building material used in it. In his presentation, he covered the advantages of using cold form steel for construction over the conventional construction method of RCC Buildings.



He showed a video explaining that how steel construction is carried out with less labour and time than the RCC Construction. He concluded his presentation with an impressive list of projects constructed with cold form steel in India and abroad. A Q&A session followed by that proved to be extremely informative for our engineers. .

Cold Form Steel - Basics •The steel used for steel framing is cold formed from sheet steel which is produced by steel mills •The rectangular slabs of solid steel are then passed through a series of rollers that press the steel into thin sheets of specific thickness, strength and other physical properties. •The sheets of steel are then sent through a continuous hot-dip process that applies a metallic coating of zinc (galvanized) or zinc & aluminum (Galvalume) onto the surface to prevent the steel from rusting. •The sheets are then rolled into master coils and banded. •The next step in the production of steel framing materials is the forming and shaping of panels, studs, track and joists from the steel coils •Cold formed steel (CFS) is sheet steel that has been formed to a specific geometry by a process of roll forming or press braking. •Larger steel members such as I- Beams are formed or rolled while red hot, the forming process for lightweight steel framing (LSF) takes place when the steel is at normal room temperature, hence the term cold forming.
