Getting Started with PubMed and MeSH

  2. 2. Begin on Library webpage: Select Databases A-Z
  3. 3. Find and Click PubMed
  4. 4. Start by finding the ( dical ubject eading) for your topic Note the web address includes msvulib This means PubMed will link back to the Mount Library journal collection
  5. 5. 1 2 3 1. Search term in MeSH 2. Click Add to search builder 3. Click Search in PubMed
  6. 6. 2 3 Once in PubMed 1.Click Advanced 2. Select “Add” from History to combine terms in the Builder 3. Click Search 1
  7. 7. 1 2 3 4 5 6 Update your filters to show: Species, Sex and Ages
  8. 8. Note the number of results before adding age filters Click on a filter to add it to the search
  9. 9. To access an article click the title Note the number of results after adding age filters
  10. 10. PMC is PubMed Central which make biomedical articles freely available Click on the Get it @ MSVU Button to search the Mount Library journal collection
  11. 11. From the Mount Library site follow the full text link to the article
  12. 12. Login using the barcode on your ID card & the last 4 digits of your phone number as your password If there is no full text link, Request the item via Document Delivery If you have any issues logging in contact the Mount library at 902-457-6250 or
  13. 13. You will need to check the box saying this is for research. Then the Submit button will become active. The Document Delivery request form should autocomplete based on the information from PubMed Article and other copies, such as book chapters and conference papers, will be emailed to you. Loans of books can be picked up at the Mount Library. You will be sent an email when they arrive.
