  2. 2. +  Learning outcomes  To have explored and researched lifestyle magazine formats  To have a blog to upload reasearch
  3. 3. Starter +  What is a lifestyle magazine?  Use FHM (Nov 2013) and Cosmopolitan (Nov 2013) as examples.  Key terms:  Representation (Who? What? Why? How?)  Ideology (reinforcing or challenging hegemonic values?)  Prescribing a lifestyle?  Progressive or regressive?
  4. 4. +  Annotate an example using media language. Focus – Audience and representation  Comment on image, language/mode of address, fonts, colour, anchorage

  6. 6. + Create a blog…in 5 mins!  Go to Blogger.com  If you have a Gmail, log in. If not, create one.  Name your blog with your own name and subject, eg Mike Handley’s Media Blog.  Set the domain name as the same.  Choose a theme/style (you can change this later.  Start blogging!
  7. 7. + Let’s get blogging…  Using examples of double page spreads from lifestyle magazines, explore how the text communicates meaning. Use the framework from the previous task.  Search – “[magazine title] double page”  Blog your findings Make a note of key points on the blog citing the publication and date. Detail how the text uses both image and text to convey meaning.
  8. 8. +  Plenary: Pre-production brief  You will produce TWO front pages for a new lifestyle magazine.  You will be expected to use original photography, appropriate modes of address and themes relevant to the lifestyle  DST task – Continue to blog research and decide on a lifestyle for your magazine for next lesson.
