  4. 4. Translation of Surah Al Ikhlas• Say, “He is Allah, the one.• Allah, the Eternal, the Absolute• He begets not, nor is He begotten• And there is none equivalent to Him
  5. 5. Theme of Surah Al Ikhlas• It is called Ikhlas which is precisely whatthe surah is all about. Ikhlas means tohave faith in Gods being and Hisattributes.• Surah Ikhlas directly supports the firstdeclaration (shahadah) of Islam: "There isno god but Allah". In this context, Islam isbased on belief in one God (monotheism).

Introduction• Surah Al-Ikhlas is 112th chapter of the Qur’an• The Arabic root of the word Ikhlas is kh-l-s whichmeans to be purified or refined.• Surah Ikhlas mentions two names of Allah whichtogether indicate all the Attributes of perfection.They are not mentioned in any other verse: “al-Ahad” and “Al-samad.” These two namesindicate the oneness of the Sacred Being whopossesses all the attributes of perfection.

Different Names of Surah IkhlasSome of them are mentioned below:• Surah Taw heed; this is because the belief ofTaw heed (monotheism) has been covered inthis Surah in a very concise and comprehensivemanner.• Surah Al-Asaas (foundation); this is becausethe fortress of faith and deeds stands high onthe foundations of taw heed. Without thisfoundation even the greatest of actions arerendered invaluable.

Cont’d• Surah Al-Aman; this is because the believer ofthis Surah is protected from the anger and wrathof Allah• Surah Al-Noor this is because the rays of lightemitted from it enlighten both worlds of thebeliever. Both his heart and mind become clear.• Surah al-Man iah; this is because itprotects the one who recites it from thepunishment of Hell.

Benefits• Recitation of Surah al-Ikhlas is equivalent to a third ofthe Quran.• Whoever recites this Surah in his obligatoryprayers Allah grants him good in this world as well as inthe next life and forgives him, his parents and children.• Allah likes very much those who recite this Surahregularly.• If this Surah is recited for a dead person the rewardis like of reciting the whole Quran.• Whoever recites this surah ten times, Allah will build forhim a dwelling in paradise.

Benefits cont’d• The increase of the recitation of Surah al-Ikhlas means of attaining the love of Allah.• The constant recitation of Surah Al-Ikhlasincreases the presence of the angels atthe time of death.• Whoever recites this Surah 1000times, will not die unless he sees hisplace in Jannah.
