7 things you didn't know about improving your memory

  1. 1. 7 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT IMPROVING YOUR MEMORY
  2. 2. 1. Forgetting helps you learn! When studying, think about how this information will be useful to you in the future. We’ve evolved to forget anything that’s not immediately relevant to our survival. So
  3. 3. 2. Use it or lose it! Unused brain cells die. So Practise! Well-used brain cells develop stronger connections and function more quickly.
  4. 4. 3. Memory is wobbly! Recalling information makes it unstable So If you’re not sure you’ve remembered everything, check your revision notes.
  5. 5. 4. Memory is unreliable! Students often underestimate how much effort it takes for a memory to stick. So Test your knowledge immediately after you’ve learned it, and also the next day.
  6. 6. 5. The harder it is to remember, the stronger the memory Difficult to recall? The process of digging it out will make the memory stronger. So Don’t give up. Make your brain really think.
  7. 7. 6. Location, location, location! The context, circumstances & surroundings of where you learn, is all encoded in your brain, along with the information itself. So Imagine being back in that same space.
  8. 8. 7. Reloading! Every time you return to a memory, it becomes stronger So Instead of concentrating on one subject only, juggle between different topics.
