Respect is a way of treating or
thinking about something or
someone.
Respecting ourselves means
having confidence in what we
can do. It means believing in
our talents and skills.
3. THE STORY OF CHESKA

Cheska was born in Japan. Her father is
Japanese, and her mother is Filipino.
After eight years, her family has to go
back to the Philippines because of her
father’s work.
Cheska knows only a few words of
Tagalog because she speaks Japanese
most of the time.
4. At first, Cheska feels shy and has a
hard time making friends at her
school. Her parents try to encourage
her by telling her that she is good and
talented.
After two weeks, Cheska gains some
new friends. Her friends teach her
how to speak Tagalog.
5. Little by Little she learns how to speak in
Tagalog and she and her friends can
understand each other more.
Cheska teaches her friends simple
Japanese expressions. She even teaches
them Japanese dances and songs.
Cheska then begins feel happy in her new
school because and her friends have a lot
of fun.
6. During recess, her teacher notices
and discovers that Cheska is good at
dancing and singing. The teacher
talks to her about her talent twice,
Cheska says yes.
Cheska’s parents are so happy as they
watch Cheska sing and dance with her
friends onstage during the
performance of Glee Club.
7. “Cheska, we are proud of you!”
Cheska’s parents say after her
performance.
“Thank you, Mother and Father.
Thank you for telling me that I am
good and I can do many things. I have
become proud of myself too” Cheska
says as she gives her parents a big
hug.
