2. 3.

In September 2000, the Expressions Department Coordinator, who has some personal experience in Plastic Arts exhibitions organization and knows the national arts, suggested an exhibition of Plastic Arts, during the planning of the several activities which would take place in the school year. This was approved as a biannual event by all the teachers from the Expressions Department. In this way, a new activity of curricular enrichment, which was approved by the Pedagogic Council, and was named Plastic Arts Biannual started.

 3. 4.

The first Plastic Arts Biannual, whose subject was Textures , took place in 2001. There were about 80 Art works, from the centre of the country and also from our capital city, Lisbon, artists.

 4. 5.

It is important to mention that from the beginning we could count with the support from Guy Ferreira, a Friend of our School, an Artist and Arts critic that has always helped in the organization of the three Biannual Events.

With the presence of 120 Artworks happened the II Biannual, with the theme Light .

 5. 6.

In the III Biannual about 160 artworks were exhibited, and the theme was Landscape . Several pieces of work were made by the 2nd and 3rd cycle pupils, in the subjects of Visual Education, Technological and Visual Education and Technological Education that belong to the Expressions Department.

 6. 7.

The IV Biannual was dedicated to “ Woman ”, having been participated by several artworks in different expressions, by national and international artists. The pupils from the Kindergartens and from the Primary Schools from the School Grouping could also participate with some of their works made in Plastic Expressions.

 7. 8.

“ The Child” was the theme suggested for the V Biannual, which took place in the School Gymnasium, having been inaugurated in the Child World Day, from 1st to 14th June 2009, where around 80 artworks about this subject were exhibited. Several works that were made in the subjects of Visual and Technological Education and Technological Education by the Kindergarten and the Primary School pupils were exposed. As well as the Animation installation, named “Bonita” “Beautiful” , that appeared from the Comenius European Project ECCE – European Children’s Cultural Exchange and also several chromatic works made by pupils from Escola Básica Sebastião da Gama de Estremoz.

 8. 10.

During the first European Project Markus meeting – Making Artists Revealing Knowledge Using Solidarity – that happened in November 2009 in the Head School, the theme HERITAGE was chosen for the VI Biannual that will take place from 4th to 19th June 2011. It is important to mention that this sixth edition will interact with the project mentioned above, having turned true the prior aim of combining the national and international artists’ participation with their own plastic works in the expressions of Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Photography, Pottery, Tapestry and Installation.

All these activities that are the Arts Biannual have been only possible due to the teachers who belong to the Expressions Department’s involvement and hard work, most of them with a year contract, and with the support of the Director, with the help of the clerk staff and the operational assistants.

Our main aims are stimulating the pupils Art taste and the taste of the whole school community.

The touch with Artists, some of them new, others already known is also one of our main objectives.
