Facts about the UK: •Population of 64 million People •4 countries in 1, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales •We did have the first Minister for the Office for Life Sciences – George Freeman •Pharmaceuticals, medical biotechnology and medical technology sectors together comprise around 5,000 companies, employing 233,000 scientists and staff, with an R&D spend of nearly £5 billion and an annual turnover of over £64 billion • The UK has the largest biopharmaceutical pipeline in the EU, with 20% of biopharmaceuticals in development originating in the UK.
