When my daughter was a little girl, we used to create fairy tales together. I would draw them, and she would write them. As she grew up, she started to feel a lot of pelvic pain, which her doctors ultimately told her were from cancer. This is my story about how she battled cancer.

  2. 2. Mechanical Interference <ul><li>Listening on my end of the line, my daughter tells me she has cancer… The phone crackles sharply, I must have heard her wrong through the static… </li></ul>
  3. 3. Hidden Beasts <ul><li>I strain to hear again through the dizziness and high pitched sounds, but still she says there is a non-operable tumor inside… They had been on the hunt, but couldn’t catch the hidden beasts… </li></ul>
  4. 4. Concealed Confusion <ul><li>I try to understand how this could be, as I strive to be there for my little girl… But, behind my reassuring façade, I am in my own state of disbelief, shock, and horror… </li></ul>
  5. 5. Burning Brush <ul><li>All turns silent except for the reverberating dial tone as she hangs up… Anger burns the held back tears from my eyes as if afire in a flame of deadwood… </li></ul>
  6. 6. Bad Boer Day <ul><li>I grow mad as hell, enraged by the demon’s gall to torment my daughter… But, somehow I must still protect her from the chemo zombies and radiation monsters now unleashed upon us all… </li></ul>
  7. 7. Outward Spiral <ul><li>She is broken and badly injured from the long fight, her glow and hope diminished by the unrelenting battalion of potions and lasers… As much as I wish it were otherwise, I cannot replenish her life supply, now it is up to her to survive… </li></ul>
  8. 8. Waves At Rest <ul><li>For a long time, she sleeps off the drugs and side effects, and we hope that she will reawake, feeling well and rested… As she dreams on, the ocean waves seem to calm all around her, and the voyage begins to look promising once more… </li></ul>
  9. 9. Buoy Recoup <ul><li>Despite the reefs and hazards in the rough and choppy waters before her, she somehow continues to stay afloat… Beyond the rocky path ahead, she can almost make out the land where we desperately and longingly await her safe and healthy return… </li></ul>
  10. 10. Conducive Recovery <ul><li>The tide has finally turned—Weathered and worn out, but alive ( SO ALIVE ), she arrives victorious on the shore … She has won the war at no small cost, and now it is time to help her rebuild a new world to fill the void of the old one lost behind. </li></ul>
