4. Cities of the Future
By 2050 almost 70 percent of us will live
in urban areas. The cities of the future
must be adaptable and resilient if they
are to respond to the changing needs of
their citizens.
We know that the ideas to improve our cities already
exist - in businesses, city leadership and citizens. Our
purpose is to find the solutions, test them and bring
them to market, positioning the UK as a leader in the
global smart-cities economy.
5. How we
collaborate
We are a project based organisation and
like to work with partners in a number of
different ways:
Bid for funding from a range of sources
(including EU H2020, Newton Fund, and
others)
Core Grant Commercial Collaborative R&D
Streams of revenue
Delivering innovation projects that advance
the mission of Future Cities Catapult
We invest our core grant in the Urban
Innovation Centre as well as internal
innovation projects
7. City Initiatives for Technology, Innovation and
Entrepreneurship (CITIE) is a framework to help
city governments develop practical policy,
which supports innovation and
entrepreneurship.
We have collaborated to shape the thinking and
developed a website to articulate and visualise
the CITIE tool.

9. As part of our regular future-gazing research,
we’ve explored how five existing and near-
future technologies could support the way-
finding, route choices and safety of cyclists on
the city’s busy roads.

“It is impossible to separate
the life and design of a city
from the attempt to
understand happiness, to
experience it, and to build it
for society.
The search shapes cities, and
cities shape the search in
return.”
