  2. 2. What is FTP Server Lite? <ul><li>FTP Server Lite is; </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Go get it at http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com/index.html </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Is a portable application that requires no installation. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>A portable FTP server. </li></ul></ul>

Why use FTP Server Lite? <ul><li>FTP Server Lite can be used for the following tasks; </li></ul><ul><li>Copy multiple files easier then a HTTP server. </li></ul><ul><li>More control on permissioning then a HTTP server. </li></ul><ul><li>Easiest to calculate throughput of file transfer protocols. </li></ul><ul><li>File transfers may be from either a web browser or from the command line. </li></ul>

Getting Started – Setting Up User Accounts <ul><li>Set up one or multiple user accounts depending on how many users you require. </li></ul><ul><li>Only these users can access the FTP server. </li></ul><ul><li>For security you can set passwords for your users. </li></ul><ul><li>You can disable users by clicking on that users name, then check the “Disable this account” box. </li></ul><ul><li>Set permissions accordingly. In most cases you will only want users to download from the server. </li></ul><ul><li>We have found that you can only set up a maximum of 3 user accounts </li></ul>

Getting Started – Configuration <ul><li>Set up your max connections depending on how many hosts you expect to be using the server at one time. </li></ul><ul><li>Most FTP users like to set a Welcome and Goodbye message for their hosts. </li></ul><ul><li>The Startup settings allow you to launch and activate your FTP server at upon Windows Startup. </li></ul><ul><li>You can choose to turn on logging for either errors, warnings or traces. Logged traces will be recorded in a Notepad file. </li></ul><ul><li>We have found that only 4 simultaneous connections can be supported from 1 IP address. </li></ul>

Turning on and Using FTP Server <ul><li>Once you are done configuring your FTP server click the Start button to activate it. </li></ul><ul><li>Once activated, users can access your FTP server from either a web browser or the command prompt. </li></ul><ul><li>You can type either the IP or the Machine name of the server. </li></ul><ul><li>You will be prompted to enter your user name, and password if applicable, on both the web browser and the command prompt. </li></ul><ul><li>NOTE: You can create a URL login syntax to make logging into your FTP server through the web browser easier and faster. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>ftp://username:password@hostname (or @Ipaddresss)) </li></ul></ul>
