  3. 3. Have you contemplated the great mysteries of Life? How do you view life and death Are they inextricably tied together? Researchers have found when you lose something, research suggests you value it more
  4. 4. Have you taken time to smell the roses? Savoring positive experiences makes them stick in your brain and increase the benefits to your psyche. Close your eyes and imagine a pleasurable experience
  5. 5. What experiences can you recall ? What experiences do you savor ? Who do remember and why?
  6. 6. Do you take Good things as Gifts or Entitlement ? The Opposite of Gratitude is Entitlement -believe yourself as special
  7. 7. Seeing with a Grateful Eye Requires that you see the web of Interconnections in relationships with nature and other other people Recovery = showing up and being of service , making amends
  8. 8. Be Grateful to People Not Just Things
  9. 9. Take Notice How others help you How you acknowledged their help How you benefited from the interaction Say thank you with purpose and meaning
  10. 10. Specificity is Paramount The more specific you are with another, the more genuine gratitude feels I appreciate being told exactly what is working and what is not
  11. 11. What three, four or even five people did you thank today for a specific thing that enriches your life?
  12. 12. How do you Thank outside the Box? Your loved one for allowing you to explore your own behaviors Your boss for firing you Your boyfriend or girlfriend for ending your relationship Your interventionists for getting you to treatment
