A graduate of Stuyvesant High School in NewYork City, Loren Weiss performs hisundergraduate studies at theUniversity of Michigan. As a student, LorenWeiss follows his schools sports teams andcheered for the University of MichiganWolverines as they competed in the 2013National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) tournament.
One of the most exciting sports events of theyear, the NCAAs March Madness starts with64 college basketball teams playing againstone another to determine the best team in thenation. The 2013 event represented a banneryear for the University of MichiganWolverines. A fourth seed and the countryshighest ranked offensive team, they becamethe first Wolverines to reach the Final Four in20 years by defeating the Kansas StateWildcats.
In the Final Four, the Wolverines played against theUniversity of Florida Gators and beat them 79 to 59.They also defeated subsequent challengers, theSyracuse University Oranges, to go to the finals. OnApril 8, 2013, the University of Michigan Wolverinesand the University of Louisville Cardinals met for thelast game of that years competition. With a finalscore of 82 to 76, the Cardinals won and acquiredtheir first title since 1986. However, Wolverines pointguard Trey Burke was recognized as the collegeplayer of the year by numerous top organizations,including the Associated Press, the Los AngelesAthletic Club, the United States Basketball WritersAssociation, and the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
