7th grade 11 12-12

  1. 1. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Assignments: 11/12/12 -Lit Circles (W) 7th Grade Language Arts -"The Fiddlers Bill" + 3 Agenda: sticky notes (TH) 1. Warm-up: Spelling Pretest -Vocabulary Packet (F) 2. Vocabulary 3. Grammar -Spelling Test (F) 4. Literature 1
  2. 2. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Chapter 3, Lessons 7-8: Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement Antecedent: the noun or pronoun that a pronoun replaces The Hopi people made their homes in the desert. The Hopi settled what is now Arizona. They have been here for more than ten centuries. 2
  3. 3. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Agreement in Number -singular pronoun with a singular antecedent -plural pronoun with a plural antecedent EX: Hopi culture, in all its forms, is alive and well. Traditional members keep cattle on their farms. Agreement in Person -it must agree in person with the antecedent 3rd person EX: Tribal elders tell myths of their people. first person We like to listen to our grandparents stories. 3
  4. 4. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Agreement in Gender -the gender of the pronoun must be the same as the gender of its antecedent Derrick Davis performs his hoop dances. Try page 75 with the people at your table! 4
  5. 5. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Indefinite Pronoun Agreement An indefinite pronoun does not refer to a specific person, place, thing, or idea (often do not have antecedents) Some are always singular; some are always plural; some can be either singular or plural (which one do you think is the most difficult?) Copy the box from page 76 into your notes 5
  6. 6. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Singular or Plural Indefinite Pronouns -the phrase that follows will often tell you whether it is singular or plural EX: Some of the time capsule looks like it is very old. Some of the time capsules list their contents outside. 6
  7. 7. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Everyone likes to think that (he or she/they) will leave a mark on the world. We all want to create something, and we hope (it/they) will outlive us. Some take an unusual approach; for (him or her/them), a time capsule is the answer. Anyone who assembles a time capsule hopes that (he or she/they) can send a message to the future. However, non of the people knew that (his or her/their) slide rules would become outdated in just a few decades. One of Californias tar pits acts as a time capsule because (it/they) contains peoples throwaways. taken from page 78 7
  8. 8. 7th grade 111212.notebook November 12, 2012 Point of View: How would Johnny Tremain be different if it was written from someone elses point of view? What else would you know? What wouldnt you know if it was written from a characters perspective? 8
