The First Three Bikram Yoga Poses

  2. 2.  Based in Medford, New Jersey, Lisa A. Post serves as head of Edward J. Post Co., Inc., a surety bond company that works with clients in the construction industry to help meet their bond needs. Away from her work at the Medford company, Lisa A. Post is a practitioner of Bikram yoga. Bikram yoga differs from most other yoga styles in that it employs specific postures in a set sequence. The first two poses--the half-moon pose and the hands-to-feet pose--are typically linked. These are used as starters because they quickly provide energy and vigor for the coming session.
  3. 3.  They also help with low-back pain and can correct posture. The thighs, calves, and core muscles also benefit from these particular poses. The third pose is the chair pose. It is performed by gently squatting, leaving a six-inch gap between the hands and the knees while keeping both parallel to the floor. She shoulders should be down and away from the ears in a relaxed position. This pose is effective because it also helps to continue warming up the body by circulating fresh blood to the ankle and knee areas. It also improves flexibility in the hips and relief to sore muscles and cramps.
