  2. 2. What are Knights? <ul><li>A knight was the middle ages soldier. </li></ul><ul><li>They were under a ‘lord’s’ command. </li></ul><ul><li>They would go to battle for their ‘lord’ and were loyal unto death. </li></ul>
  3. 3. A Knight’s Childhood <ul><li>Most knights were born into wealthy or high-class families. </li></ul><ul><li>They started out as pages to knights, at age 6 or 7. </li></ul><ul><li>When they were older they might become squires. This is when they would be taught how to wield a sword, and more of the ways of a knight. </li></ul>

Modern Knights <ul><li>Today, knighthood is a symbolic honor. </li></ul><ul><li>This honor is given to a diverse class of   people. </li></ul><ul><li>Mountain climber Edmund Hillary and musician Paul McCartney have been knighted. Many others have been knighted for noble or courageous deeds. </li></ul>

  6. 6. Knight’s Armor <ul><li>Knights wear lots of armor. </li></ul><ul><li>They wear heavy metal plates or chainmail. </li></ul><ul><li>They also wear helmets which greatly obstruct vision. (left) </li></ul>
  7. 7. Tournaments <ul><li>Knights regularly participated in jousting and fighting tournaments. </li></ul><ul><li>This gave the knights valuable practice and also was used as a way to find the strongest knights to send on a mission. </li></ul>
