The Word Of God

 1. 1. The Word of God Why do I come up with a way to compel or encourage you to read through the entire bible or New Testament every year?
 2. 2. The Word of God

I am of the firm belief it is essential for spiritual well being and keeping Satan and his temptations at bay.

 3. 3. The Word of God

This morning I hope to give you proof of this in what God Himself says in His Word. Let’s begin with a passage we all have heard many times

 4. 4. The Word of God

and probably know by heart. It is in The Apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy.

 5. 5. The Word of God

2 Timothy 3:16 NET Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

 6. 6. The Word of God

17 that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work.

 7. 7. The Word of God

Those who would learn the things of God, and be assured of them, must know the Holy Scriptures, for they are the Divine revelation.

 8. 8. The Word of God

The age of children is the age to learn; and those who would get true learning, must get it out of the Scriptures.

 9. 9. The Word of God

They must not lie by us neglected, seldom or never looked into. The Bible is a sure guide to eternal life. The prophets and apostles did not speak from themselves,

 10. 10. The Word of God

but delivered what they

received of God.

2 Peter 1:19 NET Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing.

 11. 11. The Word of God

You do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

 12. 12. The Word of God

20 Above all, you do well if you recognize this: No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet's own imagination,

 13. 13. The Word of God

21 for no prophecy was ever borne of human impulse; rather, men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

 14. 14. The Word of God

It is profitable for all purposes of the Christian life. It is of use to all, for all need to be taught, corrected, and reproved.

 15. 15. The Word of God

There is something in the Scriptures suitable for every case. Oh that we may love our Bibles more, and keep closer to them!

 16. 16. The Word of God

Then shall we find benefit, and at last gain the happiness therein promised by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the main subject of both Testaments.

 17. 17. The Word of God

We best oppose error by promoting a solid knowledge of the word of truth; and the greatest kindness we can do to children, is to make them early to know the Bible.

(Matthew Henry Concise Commentary)

 18. 18. The Word of God

The prophet Jeremiah gives us a hint

of the power in

The Word of God.

 19. 19. The Word of God

Jeremiah 23:29 My message is like a fire that purges dross! It is like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces! I, the LORD, so affirm it!

 20. 20. The Word of God

As God taught us the power of His Word through Jeremiah He again teaches us through the writer of Hebrews.

 21. 21. The Word of God

Hebrews 4:12 NET For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow;

 22. 22. The Word of God

it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.

Can we neglect something this POWERFUL?? Let me explain it this way.

 23. 23. The Word of God

When I was flight instructing I taught many people to operate small, single engine airplanes safely.

 24. 24. The Word of God

After completing the Government required and necessary training these new pilots were adequately & reasonably qualified to fly their family on a trip or vacation.

 25. 25. The Word of God

What if the new pilot needs a six place airplane because five people including himself are going on this trip?

 26. 26. The Word of God

I cannot think of a modern six place airplane that is not high performance & complex.

 27. 27. The Word of God

All this means is the aircraft has a more powerful engine and is thus “high performance,” and is equipped with a variable speed propeller,

 28. 28. The Word of God

maybe retractable landing gear and/or cowl flaps, hence it is “complex.”

 29. 29. The Word of God

Now this new pilot needs additional training and a notation by his instructor in his log book verifying he has received such.

 30. 30. The Word of God

Let’s consider the consequences if he neglects the additional training. He taxies out and takes off as if he were in the trainer aircraft.

 31. 31. The Word of God

Problem one , the engine is overheating because he didn’t open the cowl flaps. Cowl flaps allow air to flow through the engine compartment better to cool the engine.

 32. 32. The Word of God

They are to be open when taxing, taking off and climbing. Problem two , he is only looking at the engine RPM gauge for setting his power.

 33. 33. The Word of God

In reality he is doing bad things to the engine because the propeller is not fixed pitch.

 34. 34. The Word of God

It is variable pitched allowing the pilot to change the pitch of the propeller in order to let the engine work more efficiently.

 35. 35. The Word of God

Think of it as a standard transmission in a car. What happens if you never shift out of first gear while trying to drive highway speeds?

 36. 36. The Word of God

The pilot not only needs to look at his engine RPM gauge but also his manifold pressure gauge so the propeller can be set correctly,

 37. 37. The Word of God

hence not over working or over heating the engine. Problem three , the pilot does not know the landing gear must be retracted before reaching cruising speed.

 38. 38. The Word of God

There is a speed limit for having the landing gear extended. The common checklist procedure is when a positive rate of climb is indicated

 39. 39. The Word of God

on the gauge after lift off and there is no possibility of putting the aircraft back down on the runway due to an emergency, the landing gear is to be retracted.

 40. 40. The Word of God

So here we have, because of neglecting the training, the aircraft engine is overheating and over worked.

 41. 41. The Word of God

The engine is most likely going to overheat and fail. A crash could be imminent and death could be the result.

 42. 42. The Word of God

Damage could have been done to the landing gear because the extended landing gear speed was exceeded.

 43. 43. The Word of God

If the pilot is lucky enough to make it to an airport, when he lands his landing gear could fail due to neglecting the proper procedures.

 44. 44. The Word of God

and death could be the result in this case also.

We won’t even think about a pilot neglecting training before

 45. 45. The Word of God

attempting to operate a multi-engine, turbine powered or pressurized aircraft.

 46. 46. The Word of God

Do you see the comparison? God’s Word contains immeasurable power. How are we to survive ignoring its training

 47. 47. The Word of God

when we read novels, magazines or study only what pertains to our vocation? It’s unthinkable!! And eternal death could be the result.

 48. 48. The Word of God

By being intimately familiar with The Word of God we have access to eternal life.

 49. 49. The Word of God

John 6:63 NET The Spirit is the one who gives life; human nature is of no help! The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

 50. 50. The Word of God

In the longest psalm God, through the psalmist, reinforces how important The Word of God is.

 51. 51. The Word of God

Psalms 119:9 NET

How can a young person maintain a pure life?

By guarding it according to your instructions!

 52. 52. The Word of God

10

With all my heart

I seek you.

Do not allow me to stray from your commands!

 53. 53. The Word of God

11

In my heart

I store up your words,

so I might not sin

against you.

 54. 54. The Word of God

12

You deserve praise,

O LORD!

Teach me your statutes!

 55. 55. The Word of God

13

With my lips

I proclaim

all the regulations

you have revealed.

 56. 56. The Word of God

14

I rejoice in the lifestyle prescribed by your rules as if they were riches

of all kinds.

 57. 57. The Word of God

15

I will meditate

on your precepts

and focus

on your behavior.

 58. 58. The Word of God

16

I find delight

in your statutes;

I do not forget

your instructions.

 59. 59. The Word of God

Our Lord’s Apostle Peter puts the finishing touch on the importance of knowing God’s Word.

 60. 60. The Word of God

2 Peter 1:1 NET From Simeon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

 61. 61. The Word of God

have been granted a faith just as precious as ours.

2 May grace and peace be lavished on you as you grow in the rich knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!

 62. 62. The Word of God

3 I can pray this because his divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness

 63. 63. The Word of God

through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence. 4 Through these things he has bestowed on us his precious and most magnificent promises,

 64. 64. The Word of God

so that by means of what was promised you may become partakers of the divine nature, after escaping the worldly corruption that is produced by evil desire.

 65. 65. The Word of God

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith excellence, to excellence, knowledge;

 66. 66. The Word of God

6 to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; 7 to godliness, brotherly affection; to brotherly affection, unselfish love.

 67. 67. The Word of God

8 For if these things are really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective

 68. 68. The Word of God

and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately.

 69. 69. The Word of God

9 But concerning the one who lacks such things he is blind. That is to say, he is nearsighted, since he has forgotten about the cleansing of his past sins.

 70. 70. The Word of God

10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to be sure of your calling and election. For by doing this you will never stumble into sin.

 71. 71. The Word of God

11 For thus an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be richly provided for you.

 72. 72. The Word of God

12 Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have.

 73. 73. The Word of God

13 Indeed, as long as I am in this tabernacle, I consider it right to stir you up by way of a reminder,

 74. 74. The Word of God

14 since I know that my tabernacle will soon be removed, because our Lord Jesus Christ revealed this to me.

 75. 75. The Word of God

15 Indeed, I will also make every effort that, after my departure, you have a testimony of these things.

 76. 76. The Word of God

Peter, the one man Jesus gave the opportunity, nay the responsibility of preaching the first Gospel sermon says, his divine power has

 77. 77. The Word of God

bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.

 78. 78. The Word of God

God has given us everything we need for life and godliness!

We have what we need, will we use it?

 79. 79. The Word of God

Peter thought it important people be constantly reminded of that which is an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

 80. 80. The Word of God

Peter goes further to say;

Indeed, I will also make every effort that, after my departure, you have a testimony of these things.

 81. 81. The Word of God

It seems to me that Peter knew that he was writing down what would be used for generations by people seeking salvation.

 82. 82. The Word of God

Salvation that is only available from Jesus, The Christ, The Son of God. Just from what Peter said don’t you think it prudent to continually study

 83. 83. The Word of God

what God’s Spirit lead Peter and others to write down so we can know about Jesus and the salvation that comes only from Him?
