2. What training could you as a manager put into
place to avoid this situation?
~THE HIPAA PRIVACY RULE~
~The HIPAA Privacy Rule has been put in place in efforts of protecting the
information of those who trust their private information to be held confidential
by health care organizations.
~The HIPAA Privacy Rule protects most health records from disclosure but
permits health care providers to make disclosures to public health officials and
for certain other purposes (O’Conner & Mathews, 2011, p. 1845).
~In the case of the UCLA Hospital, the leadership of the hospital should
strategize a training that is given up to twice a year with all employees.
~In addition to this training, leadership is to briefly remind employees monthly
on the expectation of upholding the Privacy Rule.
3. How can this training on confidentiality be
effective for the employees?
~EFFECTIVENESS OF HIPAA TRAINING~
~The training of the HIPAA Privacy Rule can be effective for employees once it becomes a
constant training and reminders are available for employees.
~Raises awareness of the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
~Holds employees to be accountable for their actions on protecting patient information.
~Proper training will set a serious tone of the expectation by the organization.
~Employees will be held to the expectations and standards of the HIPAA laws and not abiding by
the HIPPA laws may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
With these action items, the trainings will allow employees to be more conscious of the
expectations by their organizations and the training can have more effect on the employees.
