2. Expectations
• To be on the WLMS News Crew is an
honor and a privilege.
• It needs to be treated like a job. Each
role has responsibilities and duties to
complete.
• You were chosen or “hired” for these
positions, so therefore you can be
changed or “fired” if necessary.
3. Goals for the WLMS News
Show
• Create a quality news show that
reflects effective research,
creativity, and displays excellent
speaking, filming, and
technology skills.
• To create a fun and creative
environment for students to use
speaking, listening, and
technology skills.
4. Filming Roles
•
Anchor 1-4:
– Prepare and write script daily for the news show.
– Research and gather information daily on the weather,
lunch, school events, ect.
– Practice the show using the script using expression.
•
Camera Man
• Setup and prepare video equipment daily. This
includes:
– Zooming in and out when appropriate in the
filming process.
– Prepping tapes for filming
– Adjust lighting when necessary
– Use hand held cameras to film roaving reporter
interviews.
5. Filming Roles
• Roaving Reporters duties:
• Explore and investigate
current events in the school.
• Write interview questions and
practice segment.
• Come up with new news
segments and or work on
additional segments.
6. Editing Role
• The editor is in charge of
preparing the news show for
viewing. This includes:
– Sequencing segments
– Adding text, music, special effects
or video.
– Reviewing news show in it’s entirety
for errors and cutting down the
show to 5 minutes.
7. Media Helper Role
• Once the WLMS News Show
duties are completed, then you
will be required to help in the
media center. This will include:
– Checking in books
– Shelving books
– Putting up displays
– Working on bulletin boards
8. Accountability & Grades
• Each week you will be assessed on
your ability to complete your
individual duties.
• You will receive a grade based on
a weekly rubric.
• This rubric is directly related to the
checklist.
• As long as you work hard and put
forth a good attitude, you will
excel!
9. Points to Remember
• This is a related arts class that is
intended to enhance your
technology, speaking, and
listening skills.
• My ultimate goal is for you to
have FUN!!!
• I will learn just as much from you
as you will learn from me.
