Problem: Learning can be boring
● Boredom leads to students disengaging from learning
● Keeping students focused is harder than ever with ever reducing
concentration times
● Students that have different ways of learning (visual/physical) are often
under catered for by traditional learning models
● It is difficult to get students ‘excited’ about learning. Retention is increased
when students enjoy learning
Solution: Using Augmented Reality to make
learning fun and increase engagement
● Students already use mobile phones for a variety of purposes.
(From increasingly younger ages)
● They will readily adopt using them for learning purposes with Augmented
Reality resources if it means making learning more enjoyable and engaging
Maths: Times Tables in AR
● Created during the hackathon - pretty basic
● https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n2Rk0Y2T7w
● Could be gamified
Science: Periodic Table in AR
● Created prior to the hackathon but serves as another education AR resource example
● https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8JGhrqe1ek
Geography: 3D model of terrain
● Created prior to the hackathon but serves as another education AR resource example

Benefits to AR learning
● Increases student engagement and enjoyment
● Requires practicing spacial awareness
● Physically moving around - Increasing health by reducing sitting time
● Increased possibilities - Immersive three dimensional models provide a much greater
array of future options than traditional 2D learning (either textbooks or computer
screens)
● Good cost proposition - Create once, use many times
● Easily distributable - apps
● Promoting viral learning - Showing / sharing with their friends
Wide variety of options
Augmented Reality gives us many capabilities including..
● Image marker detection - Replace images in textbooks with 3d models or videos
● Facial/body tracking (Not recognition) - Try on different hats/outfits from history
● Building - Placing virtual items into the real world
● Personalisation - Specific to the student
Proposal
Taking as many traditional learning scenarios and creating Augmented Reality resources and
introducing it into as many relevant parts of the curriculum as possible.
This is could include, but not limited to
● Science - Solar system/planetry models, the composition of molecules, biology
● Geography - 3D models of our environments, maps
● History - Models of historic landmarks, maps, places or people
● Maths - Recreating math concepts in 3D space
● Art - See and move around famous sculptures and works of art
