- 2. e-Commerce is the buying and selling of products for services using an electronic medium like internet. 1995 was the year when eCommerce started getting popularized with the launch of ebay and amazon. Website/Portal CustomerBusiness Connects business to the customer
- 3. eCommerce can be classified as per below ◦ Basis Business Model ◦ Basis offerings ◦ Basis their Inception
- 4. B2B – Two companies are doing business together. E.g indiamart, alibaba B2C – Business to customer e.g. amazon, flipkart C2B – Customer to business e.g. elance.com C2C – customer to customer, e.g. olx, craigslist Others – This type of ecommerce business may include B2E, G2G, G2E, G2B, B2G, G2C, C2G etc.
- 5. Products – This type of ecommerce involve buying and selling of goods online. E.g. amazon.com, flipkart.com Services – This type of business provide services using online medium. E.g uber, ola etc. Classifieds – This can also be included in services, though this are companies which specifically provide online classifieds e.g. craigslist, olx etc.
- 6. This categorization is based on how the business started. ◦ Pure Click – Companies which started as online only can be classified under this. E.g. amazon. ◦ Bricks and clicks – These are companies which had offline presence but also started online websites e.g. walmart which started walmart.com ◦ Click to brick – This companies though started online later also opened offline stores. E.g. athleta, lenskart etc.

Some important Software requirements ◦ Browser – for customer end use. ◦ Databases – for data collections ◦ CMS – for content management ◦ OMS – for order management ◦ ERP – for supply chain planning Some important Hardware requirements ◦ Servers - For websites and hosting ◦ Computers/Laptops – for employee use *these are some key requirements, actual requirements may vary depending upon the type of business
- 8. Alibaba – World’s biggest online retailer, though it includes both B2B and B2c model Amazon – World’s largest B2C eCommerce company Uber – World’s biggest taxi aggregator services company. Elance – One of the first and biggest C2B ecommerce company Craigslist – One of the first and biggest C2C ecommerce.
