  1. 1. LAURA MULVEY’S MALE GAZE THEORY
  2. 2. THE GAZE Laura Mulvey created the term ‘Male Gaze’ to describe her theory in 1975. She believes that in the media audiences have to view the characters from the perspective of a hetrosexual male. The term gaze can be thought of as how the audience views the people that are presented. This can be described as: How men look at women How women look at other women How women look at themselves
  3. 3. FEATURES This theory is prominent in many media aspects such as films, adverts, music videos and even magazines. The camera would linger on the curves of the female body. These camera shots can downgrade women to the status of objects and make them look like a sexual tool rather than a human being.
