  3. 3. So…. What is PopMatics?<br />The PopMatics infuses students' daily mathematics instruction with popular culture to engage students. The PopMatics pedagogy is embedded through five main pillars: Technology, the Internet, Mass Media, Social Media, and Interactive Activities.<br />Examples<br />The 4 main elements of pop culture are:<br /><ul><li>- Movies
  4. 4. Wizard of Oz (Pythagorean Theorem – 5th to 10th grade)
  5. 5. - TV shows
  6. 6. Abbott and Costello (Basic Operations – 2nd to 8th grade)
  7. 7. - Math Parody Songs
  8. 8. Get Low (Quadratic Equations – 9th to 12th grade)
  9. 9. - Other pop culture elements (books, instructional videos, etc)
  10. 10. The Greedy Triangle (polygons – 4th grade to 10th grade)</li></li></ul><li>The purpose of the “PopMatics” Math Club is to: <br /><ul><li> Increase mathematics comprehension,</li></ul> understanding, and appreciation.<br /><ul><li> Increase mathematical awareness</li></ul> around us in our daily lives (especially<br /> through the use of pop culture <br /> elements)<br /><ul><li> Offer free tutoring/support for </li></ul> students through<br /><ul><li> Matching older/more advanced </li></ul> students with younger/<br /> underperforming students<br /><ul><li> Teacher volunteers
