  2. 2. What’s Language? <ul><li>Language is a form of communication, that is done via sounds, gestures, and or by written symbols. </li></ul><ul><li>With words we communicate, but not always transmit what we want to say in reality. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>If we don’t use the correct words needed at the correct time and, or place; there will be problems in the communication. </li></ul><ul><li>Words represent the language, but no one word has one meaning; depending on its usage. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Is critical thinking important to language? <ul><li>Yes, because it’s important to know what words will be needed in order to communicate with the audience. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Euphemist <ul><li>The substitution of a hash word with words that ease the real truth or vise versa. </li></ul><ul><li>He died…He past away </li></ul>
  6. 6. Double Speaking <ul><li>When someone makes something look good when in reality is not. </li></ul><ul><li>When you help the true seem better that it really is. </li></ul>
  7. 7. What’s AMBIGOUS language? <ul><li>Having many possible meanings </li></ul><ul><li>For instance; what may make sense to one, may </li></ul><ul><li>not make sense to someone else. </li></ul><ul><li>All senior citizens are a hazard behind the wheel. </li></ul>
  8. 8. When speaking make sure that your audience are receiving the correct information. In an argument the language sometimes may be misinterpreted, this is because of ambiguous language.
  9. 9. How to avoid ambiguity <ul><li>Explain your thought, so there won’t be any misunderstanding. </li></ul><ul><li>Example; what’s small to one may not be small to others. </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>When speaking make sure that your audience are receiving the correct information. In an argument the language sometimes may be misinterpreted, this is because of ambiguous language. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Critical thinkers should be aware of bad use of language which could lead no where.
