1.
You Have to Have
a Picture
Even if you’re not on
Instagram
4
When people hear/read information,
they're likely to remember only 10% of that
information three days later.
If a relevant image is paired with that
same information, people retained 65% of
the information three days later.
80% -94% more likely to have a retweet if
there is a photo
Facebook without a photo will be seen by
almost none of your followers.
2. Always Post
Directly to
Facebook
Follow up an autopost with a ICYMI follow up post
Note the difference: auto post vs. native post
Maximum Traction: Order of Operations = Photo > Narrative > Link to
your website
6
3. Save Your Character
Count on Twitter
7
Tag people in the photo and save
the room for your Tweet
You can tag up to 10 people
Use text in your graphic to cover
extra details, and save your
character count for your call to
action with a clickable link.
Use the native retweet to quote
tweet
“"WordPress is a part of who I am...Like eating,
breathing, music, I can’t not work on WordPress
the project touches a lot of people, something
I’ve recently begun to appreciate...I consider
myself very lucky to be able to work on
something I love so much." ---@photomatt

5. Screen Reader Usage is Rising 11
Think about color contrast
Think about color contrast
Use Alt text. FYI the Facebook
self-gernerated alt is TERRIBLE
#WCUS vs wcus
#21stCenturyProblems vs
#21stcenturyproblems
Don’t go hashtag crazy in the
middle of your text
Don’t use hashtags without value
7. I’m Not a
Designer Nor
Do I Play One

9. Branding Across All
Accounts
16
Make sure your name matches across all
platforms. CamelCase when possible.
Try to keep your imagery as similar as
possible. Put your logo/headshot in the
square boxes
Get rid of the extra characters on
Facebook
Avoid confusing names…I learned that
the hard way, and don’t make it unduly
difficult for people to find you on public
accounts. You can change your name
and not lose followers on all but
Instagram
11. Get a YouTube
Account
If a picture paints a thousand
words, a video paints 10,000
Cross Posting is
Key! Not
everyone is on
the same
platform.
19
Get a YouTube channel associated with your URL
YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world …owned by the
first largest search engine in the world. They like to “talk to each
other”…Hello SEO!!!!!
Live Broadcasts as on Facebook Live. With YouTube(Formerly Google
Hangouts on Air, now YouTube Creator’s Studio) you don’t have to be in the
same place.
If the video is on Facebook, cross-post it to YouTube and vice versa. No
matter the platform, keep it short. Under 3 minutes is ideal unless it’s a live
event or a listicle.
Regardless, EMBED do not link EMBED the video on your website!
11. Own It
Everywhere
Google…so many
new options!
Claim your business
page
Fill in detailed info
and photos
You can now list
events!
You get awesome
tracking stats

Social media is never a place for
NOW HEAR THIS! It’s a place to
celebrate, congratulate and inform
Controversy and mistakes
happen. Better to be out there than
not have any say in the
conversation.
If you make a mistake, own it and
apologize. Have a sense of humor if
warranted.
It’s your page, no one gets to tell
you/your organization how to run it.
Use filters to your advantage.
