8. THEIR WAY / OUR WAY
• Their Way
• Did you ever stop to think
how much space and
manpower it takes to
receive, move and store
those odd-shaped
containers?
• Aside from labor costs,
you are buying a
container, using it once,
and enduring costs to
throw it out.
• ChemStation Way
• No ordering necessary.
• No receiving, storing, or
handling problems.
• This is no mere
replacement of the way
you handle chemicals. It is
an improvement!
9. THE ENVIRONMENT
• ChemStation’s water-based, biodegradable cleaning
compounds:
• Are nontoxic
• Contain no carcinogens, teratogens, or reproductive toxins
• Are non-ozone-depleting
• Contain no or low VOCs
• Meet your standards for ignitability and corrosivity
• Have no hazardous waste characteristics
• You have no contamination from discarded drums and
totes.
• You have no wasted product leftover in containers.
10. REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Carbon Footprint Reduction from Waste Reduction Practices
• The U.S. EPA conducted a comprehensive study to measure the climate change
benefits of waste reduction and details how greenhouse gas emissions arise from
waste.
• The estimated life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions of 23 different types of waste
materials were studied.
• The EPA estimated the amount of greenhouse gases that are associated with each
type of material, measured in metric tons of carbon equivalent (MTCE) per short
ton of each type of municipal solid waste (MSW).
• 1,000 kg of carbon equivalent per 2,000 lb of a given type of material – aluminum
cans, HDPE, newspaper, etc.
• Or, alternatively, in metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2E) per short ton of
material
• Our tanks and 55-gallon drums are both typically made of a type of plastic – high
density polyethylene (HDPE) – that is included as one of the 23 types of waste
materials
• Each drum is composed of approximately 21 lb of HDPE; thus, for every 95 drums
used, one short ton of HDPE is needed (2,000 lb / 21 lb per drum)
• Under a “Source Reduction” scenario, for every short ton of HDPE that is no longer
needed, there is a net reduction of 0.98 MTCO2E
• This is in contrast to the estimated 0.02 MTCO2E that are added when HDPE is sent
to the landfill
• Thus, the net savings of MTCO2E:
• For every 95 drums that are not produced (-0.98 MTCO2E), and not sent to the landfill
(-0.02 MTCO2E), the result is a net -1.00 MTCO2E, or roughly 1,000 kilograms of CO2
not emitted into the atmosphere
