What is horror? <br />• noun <br />1) an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust. <br />2) a thing causing such a feeling. <br />3) intense dismay. <br />4) informal a bad or mischievous person, especially a child.— ORIGIN Latin, from horrere ‘shudder, (of hair) stand on end’.<br />Horror Films are unsettling films made to frighten and panic, cause dread and alarm, and to invoke our hidden worst fears, often in a terrifying, shocking way while captivating and entertaining us at the same time.<br />We have tried to terrify each other for as long as we've told stories, people used to tell horror stories to scare each other and then the first horror film was made. <br />

  4. 4. The first films.<br />Horror films go back as far as the onset of films themselves, over a 100 years ago. In the late 1800’s to early 1900’s silent horror films were made. <br />The first horror movie, only about two minutes long, was made by a French filmmaker named Georges Melies, titled Le Manoir Du Diable (1896, Fr.) (aka The Devil's Castle/The Haunted Castle). <br />One of the more memorable and influential of the early films was Germany's silent expressionistic landmark classic, Das Kabinett des DoktorCaligari (1919, Ger.) (aka The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) from director Robert Wiene. <br />According to Guinness World Records, the character most frequently portrayed in horror films is Dracula, with nearly 200 representations .<br />
