  22. 22. SUMMARISE YOUR VIEWS ON OPEN RESEARCH We should be in a position where we don't have to think about Open Research, it is just the natural way of doing things. @JSendall The current 'closed' system is outdated, unethical and hinders scientific progress. If it is not open, is it really research? GENERAL SUPPORT & ENTHUSIASM
  23. 23. SUMMARISE YOUR VIEWS ON OPEN RESEARCH @JSendall It is a good idea, but should not be pursued at the expense of established publication and peer review practices. I approve in principle but have many reservations about the manner and speed of implementation. Open Research sounds like a great idea but is not widely discussed within the university, and students are not equipped or taught how to engage in this. GENERAL SUPPORT BUT WITH RESERVATIONS
  24. 24. SUMMARISE YOUR VIEWS ON OPEN RESEARCH Most of the information about open research that is available online seems geared towards the sciences, so it’s hard to envisage how this would work in practice in the humanities. DISCIPLINARY DIFFERENCES REWARDS & INCENTIVES I don't think Early Career Researchers should be encouraged to spend their time on activities that won't help them advance their career. @JSendall
  25. 25. SUMMARISE YOUR VIEWS ON OPEN RESEARCH POLICY FATIGUE & FRUSTRATION SENIOR LEADERSHIP It would be great to get more senior researchers, managers involved, I think they’re the people who have the power to change the incentive system, to make it more rewarding for people to be involved in open practices. The system for Open Research - with all the inputs, metrics, assessments and REF etc. has become a bureaucratic nightmare that diverts professors from their work. @JSendall
  26. 26. SUMMARISE YOUR VIEWS ON OPEN RESEARCH @JSendall Open Research is of great importance not only because we are creating increasingly more digital datasets, but also for conservation and sustainability of knowledge. From my point of view Lancaster needs to make this one of its priorities.

  30. 30. OUR APPROACH @JSendall Low cost Modular Community driven IS IT REPRODUCIBLE ?
  31. 31. FINAL THOUGHTS @JSendall Apply the Mission Model Canvas to your own institution Accept the challenges - not every initiative will succeed Be ever mindful of your institution's culture Identify and support: allies, advocates and early adopters libraries are great match makers Community not compliance
