DIRECT SPEECH
 known as quoted speech.
 the words were originally
spoken.
 no interpretation or annotation.
 the words directly from the
speaker.
 Example:
“Jonah said, ''I don't like your
hat.''
INDIRECT SPEECH
 known as reported speech.
 The original words are modified.
 speaking in the past tense and
are summarizing, modifying, or
synthesizing
 Example:
 “Jonah told that he didn't like his
hat.''
