What is CSA ? <ul><li>CSA is “Community Supported Agriculture” using organically approved growing methods </li></ul><ul><li>A relationship of mutual support and commitment between a local farmer and the community </li></ul><ul><li>The farmer is provided financial support and community support </li></ul><ul><li>The community participates through annual shareholder fees and volunteer effort </li></ul>

  4. 4. Where is the La Vista CSA garden ? <ul><li>The La Vista CSA garden is located on the beautiful grounds of the Oblate Missionary Novitiate at 4350 Levis Lane in Godfrey, Illinois </li></ul>

What is the CSA at La Vista? <ul><li>A local community supported garden started in 2002 </li></ul><ul><li>The garden is managed by a full time farmer using organic farming methods </li></ul><ul><li>A Core Croup of seven volunteers oversees the garden </li></ul><ul><li>Shares of the harvest are sold to area families (reduced share costs are also available to needy families) </li></ul>

The freshly harvested produce is available for pick-up at the garden barn between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. </li></ul><ul><li>Any excess produce is donated to the local food pantry </li></ul>

  14. 14. How long is the harvest season? <ul><li>The season starts in mid-May and goes through mid-November, depending on growing conditions ( usually 27 weeks ) </li></ul>

  16. 16. How much does it cost? <ul><li>A full share with weekly pick-up is about $20 per week. ($550 total cost) </li></ul><ul><li>An alternate share is about $11 per week. ($300 total) (Alternate shares pick-up every other week) </li></ul><ul><li>Scheduled payment plans are available. You may also split your share with someone else. </li></ul>

Do you enjoy fresh Spring Greens? <ul><li>We have spring greens shares available </li></ul><ul><li>Spring greens are a Gourmet Salad Mix made up of several red and green varieties of lettuces and baby spinach </li></ul><ul><li>You will receive one pound of produce per week for 5 weeks beginning around mid-March </li></ul><ul><li>Cost is $35 for shareholders and $50 for non-shareholders </li></ul>
