BELT Conventions

  1. 1. In what ways does your mediaproduct use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?
  2. 2. This is an establishing shot of the back alleys the gangsters stood at. Thissettings follow some conventions of a gangster film as they hang around inalley ways, however, this does not follow some conventions of a gangsterfilm as they are mainly filmed during the night.
  3. 3. This is a long shot of the “gangsters” hanging around on their phones in theback alleys of their local area. This follows the convention that all gangstershang around looking intimidating. Their hats, puffer jackets, tracksuitjackets and tracksuit tops all symbolize the power and the danger thatgangsters portray.
  4. 4. This is a long shot of the two main characters back in their school days. The school, being a stereotypical setting for a movie involving teenagers. The idea of the girl being innocent in her uniform and the boy being a rebelnot in uniform shows what they may be like in future life.
  5. 5. This is a medium shot of the two main characters outside when one of thecharacters had left school and they bump into each other a year later. Thisis a stereotypical place for the gangsters to hang out, but not the girl.
  6. 6. This is an over-the-shoulder shot of the main girl and boy talking, you canfully see the boys facial expressions via the medium shot and him nothaving his hood up properly. However, the hood symbolizes the he is ahood-rat.
  7. 7. This is an over-the-shoulder shot of the boy and girl talking, we can fullysee the girls facial expressions as she has nothing covering her face orhead. The pink scarf makes her look more feminine and maybe easilyintimidated. The flower in her blonde hair also shows femininity.
  8. 8. This is a medium 2 shot of the main characters showing their facialexpressions and body language. You can see in their facial expressionsthat they are well into the conversation as they are looking each other inthe eyes. You can see the difference between the two differentpersonalities by what they are wearing as jack is wearing tracksuits andclothes that are considered to be intimidating while Lauren is wearingclothes that are considered to be feminine and mature.
  9. 9. This is a high angle shot of the main boy character picking up his drugsfrom the floor. Using the high angle shot makes the boy look smaller andtherefore inferior and weak. This has broken a common convention in„gangster‟ films as the gangsters are more than likely to have a low angleshot making them look superior to everyone else.
