  2. 2. <ul><li>Born in the Red River Settlement in 1844. </li></ul><ul><li>Attended schooling for priesthood & lawyer but did not follow through with either. </li></ul>Introduction
  3. 3. Early Achievements <ul><li>In 1869-1870, Riel headed a provisional government </li></ul><ul><li>The Manitoba Act was established and helped to protect the French. </li></ul>

Events <ul><li>Execution of Thomas Scott </li></ul><ul><li>In 1884, Riel was delegated to represent the Métis </li></ul><ul><li>He was the spiritual & political leader in the 1885 rebellion </li></ul><ul><li>On May 15, after the fall of Batoche Riel surrendered and was taken to Regina for his trial. </li></ul>
  6. 6. The Trial <ul><li>Riel gave two long speeches at his trial. </li></ul><ul><li>On August 1 st , 1885, he was found guilty </li></ul>
  7. 7. Louis Riel Today <ul><li>Louis Riel and his contributions are kept alive today with the knowledge we are able to obtain in school. His legacy will remain an important part of history whether he was truly guilty or not. </li></ul>
