  • The five founding organisations were: the British Library (BL) - the national library of the UK the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) – the main UK professional body for librarians and information scientists the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) – the public body responsible for promoting best practice and innovation in museums, libraries and archives in the UK. the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) – a public-funded body that provides leadership in innovative use of ICT to support education and research in further and higher education across the UK. the Research Information Network (RIN) – a UK policy unit that focuses on understanding and promoting the information needs of researchers.
